Martin Frizell – former This Morning boss and devoted husband to broadcaster Fiona Phillips – has shared a deeply emotional update about his wife’s worsening condition amid her battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s. In a heartbreaking tribute posted to Instagram on Mother’s Day, Martin offered fans a rare and raw glimpse into their private struggle, admitting: “Things feel like they’re slipping out of our control.”

Martin posted a candid photo of Fiona from four years ago, smiling and waving at the camera, captured before any symptoms began to surface. “If Mother’s Day is tough, you’re not alone. Share the good times. This was Fiona four years ago just before symptoms started. It’s my favourite picture of a wonderful mum,” he wrote to his 8,751 followers.
He went on to reveal that Fiona’s condition has sadly deteriorated in recent months. “She’s forgetting more and more,” Martin admitted. “She’s losing track of time, and sometimes she doesn’t even know what part of the day we’re in. It’s painful to watch—but we’re trying our best to keep going, together.”
In one of the most touching moments he shared, Fiona had turned to him recently and said with a soft voice, “I’ll try not to forget you.” Martin described this as both beautiful and heartbreaking, a powerful reminder of the emotional toll this cruel disease takes.
The couple remains committed to facing this journey side by side. Despite the heartbreaking progression of her illness, Martin’s tribute was filled with love and resilience. “We have bad days. But we also have each other,” he said.
In a follow-up Instagram Story, Martin posted a photo of a glass award Fiona received in 2007 when she was named “Mum of the Year,” writing, “This was more important in our house than any BAFTA, NTA, or RTS.”
Fiona, 64, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022, made the news public a year later. She previously opened up about her condition, calling it both “frightening” and at times filled with “moments of joy.” Determined to help others in similar situations, Fiona is now preparing to release a memoir titled Remember When, coming out this July.
“I hope this book can show people a little about what it is like to live with Alzheimer’s,” Fiona shared. “How frightening and confusing it is. But also how much life can still bring joy and be valued. And if you or someone you love is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, I hope this book brings you some comfort. I want you to know, you are not alone,” she added, according to MailOnline.
