British television icon Mary Berry is set to receive one of the biggest honours of her extraordinary career after BAFTA confirmed she will be awarded the prestigious Fellowship at the 2026 BAFTA Television Awards.
The Fellowship is the Academy’s highest accolade, recognising an exceptional contribution to television, film or games — and for millions of viewers across the UK, few names feel more deserving than Mary Berry.

The beloved 90-year-old star, best known for transforming baking television through The Great British Bake Off, admitted she was left stunned by the news.
Mary said: “I couldn’t believe it was true, what a huge honour to be presented with the BAFTA Fellowship.
“For over 50 years, I have enjoyed every moment of teaching my passion on television and I thank all the generous professionals along the way who have given me guidance and support — and I am still learning. This amazing BAFTA Fellowship is the icing on the cake!”
The emotional honour will officially be presented during the BAFTA Television Awards ceremony on May 10 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
Mary first began her television career in the 1970s before becoming one of the most comforting and recognisable faces in British entertainment. But it was Bake Off that transformed her into a national treasure.

Alongside fellow judge Paul Hollywood, Mary helped turn the cosy baking competition into a cultural phenomenon that attracted millions of loyal viewers every year.
When the show controversially moved from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2017, Mary famously chose not to follow — a decision many fans praised for its loyalty to the BBC. She was later replaced by Prue Leith.
Despite leaving Bake Off, Mary’s television empire only continued to grow. She fronted hit BBC shows including Mary Berry’s Simple Home Comforts, Mary Berry Everyday, Britain’s Best Home Cook and festive specials loved by audiences every Christmas.
BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip praised the television legend in a heartfelt statement, saying: “Dame Mary Berry is a singular talent whose warmth, craft and generosity have helped shape the very best of British television.”

She added: “For more than 60 years, Mary Berry has informed, inspired and entertained audiences, setting a new benchmark for factual entertainment.”
Even now at 90 years old, Mary continues to inspire generations through cookbooks, television projects, food products and her hugely successful brand — proving her influence on British culture stretches far beyond the famous white tent.
