Critical but now safe! Legend Paul Gascoigne has survived 72 life-or-death hours of his life

Paul Gascoigne is now resting at home after being discharged from hospital, days after collapsing at his home in Poole, Dorset.

The 58-year-old football icon, widely considered one of England’s most naturally gifted players, was found semi-conscious in his bedroom last Friday by close friend and personal assistant Steve Foster. Gascoigne was immediately taken to hospital, where doctors identified a throat condition and placed him under observation in intensive care.

His health scare sparked concern across the sporting world, especially considering his long-standing battles with alcohol addiction and mental health. However, after stabilisation, his condition improved rapidly, and by Monday, he had returned home.

According to Foster, “Gazza would like to thank everyone for the support he’s received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best.” He added that by Saturday night, Gascoigne was already “out of danger.”

Although initially expected to remain in hospital for a few more days, Gascoigne reportedly told friends he was feeling “fine,” allowing doctors to approve his early discharge.

His hospitalisation was particularly alarming given the progress he had made in recent months. Over the summer, Gascoigne had been sober and actively participating in speaking tours, appearing healthier than he had in years. In a recent interview, he admitted: “I feel better now than I have in years. I hope I am at a point that I can look back over everything I’ve gone through with a different, more positive, perspective.”

Despite a troubled past marked by alcoholism, legal troubles, and personal turmoil—including a turbulent marriage and failed coaching stint—Gascoigne’s recent recovery had brought hope to many fans. Capped 57 times for England, the former attacking midfielder also had a decorated club career, playing for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough, and Everton.

Now, fans around the country are sending their well wishes, hoping this latest scare is behind him and that Gazza truly is, finally, on the mend.
