Maura Higgins has finally addressed the growing speculation about a possible romance with reality star Pete Wicks – and she’s made it very clear: they’re just friends.
The Love Island star, 33, broke her silence on the whispers during an appearance on Paul C Brunson’s podcast We Need To Talk, after weeks of headlines and photos claiming she and Pete had been seen kissing.
When asked if there was anything romantic going on between them, Maura was blunt. “We’re friends,” she said. “We met just after I came off Love Island and we instantly clicked. Our humour is the same – it’s dark, twisted, very abusive… but hilarious. We just get on really, really well.”
Maura didn’t hold back in praising Pete either, calling him “an amazing person” and adding that she “adores him” – but strictly in a platonic way.
The clarification comes after the duo were spotted looking close at the Pride of Britain Awards, with one onlooker reportedly seeing them sharing a kiss at the afterparty. Despite the rumours, both stars have now firmly denied anything romantic is happening.
Meanwhile, Pete has also been the subject of romance speculation with his Strictly Come Dancing partner Jowita Przystal. But Jowita quickly shut that down, telling OK! Magazine that Pete is “like a brother” to her and that their chemistry is purely friendship-based.
Looks like Pete and Maura are just two cheeky friends caught up in a swirl of wishful thinking – at least for now.
