BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia has defiantly responded after revealing she was criticised by viewers over the outfits she wears while presenting the news.
The 45-year-old broadcaster disclosed that one viewer even went as far as sending her a handwritten letter complaining that her dresses were “far too short” and questioning why she was “dressing like a 17-year-old”.
Amy shared the bizarre criticism alongside a cheerful photo of herself sitting on the studio sofa in a blue-and-red patterned dress ahead of going on air.
Addressing the anonymous critic with a touch of humour, she wrote: “I recently received a handwritten letter telling me that my dresses were far too short for my age and why was I dressing like a 17-year-old.
“This outfit is for Margaret, I hope she approves.”
Her tongue-in-cheek response quickly won praise from fans, who rushed to support the popular presenter and urged her not to pay attention to the negative comments.
One admirer commented: “Love that dress Amy ignore! Where is it from?!”
Another wrote: “She sounds a very rude person Amy… Take no notice and carry on being who you are.”
A third supporter added: “You always look beautiful Amy. Oh Margaret, Margaret, Margaret, you clearly need a hobby to occupy your time rather than insult the lovely Amy.”
Meanwhile, another fan praised the presenter’s confidence, saying: “You always dress lovely and look wonderful, wished I had the confidence and your figure xx.”
Amy, who became the main anchor of BBC Look North in 2020, has enjoyed a long career in television. Before joining the regional news programme, the Yorkshire-born presenter appeared on CBBC, CITV and The Disney Channel, and also hosted BBC Three’s 60 Seconds and BBC South Today.
Her experience with online criticism comes just days after fellow BBC Look North presenter Amanda Harper faced backlash over her choice of on-air attire, with some viewers branding her appearance “cheap and trashy” after she wore leather trousers, high heels and a glittery top while presenting a bulletin.
Despite the criticism, Amy’s latest post proved that many viewers are firmly on her side — and that she has no intention of changing her style to satisfy the trolls.
