At Ozzy Osbourne’s private funeral, his beloved protégé Yungblud gave a moving reading that left Ozzy’s wife Sharon in tears. He later revealed the cross necklace Ozzy had gifted him – a symbol fans see as the rocker’s final blessing. What did he say that touched her so deeply?

At the private funeral of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, his beloved protégé Yungblud delivered a moving reading, honouring the deep, father-son-like bond they had forged over the past few years. The 27-year-old musician, real name Dominic Harrison, also shared a deeply personal tribute on Instagram just hours after the service.

Yungblud posted a close-up photo of a silver cross necklace — a meaningful gift Ozzy had given him during the filming of the Funeral music video in 2022. Alongside the image, he wrote: “Goodnight Oz. Your light will forever shine. I love you.” Fans quickly commented that the “Prince of Darkness” had symbolically “passed the torch” to him.

The bond between the two musicians grew after their first meeting in 2022. Yungblud even gifted Ozzy a custom cross necklace in return before Black Sabbath’s final concert at Villa Park in Birmingham, where he also performed a cover of Changes — a track he’s vowed to continue playing in Ozzy’s honour.

Ozzy, who passed away on July 22 aged 76, was buried in the gardens of his Buckinghamshire mansion, as per his wishes. A private ceremony was held on the family’s 250-acre estate, near a peaceful lake. Guests included rock royalty such as Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Zakk Wylde, and reportedly Sir Elton John. The attendees arrived in true gothic style, with heavy metal fashion setting the tone of the event.

A massive floral tribute reading “OZZY F***ING OSBOURNE” was laid out beside the Osbourne lake — a final, theatrical nod to the icon’s legacy.

The public memorial a day earlier had drawn thousands to the streets of Birmingham. Ozzy’s hearse passed by his childhood home, and the city’s famous Black Sabbath Bridge was filled with emotional fans. Sharon Osbourne and her children — Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis — greeted supporters with peace signs and heartfelt tributes.

In true Ozzy spirit, the rocker once said he didn’t want a “mope-fest” funeral. “Play Justin Bieber if it makes them happy,” he joked in 2011, adding that he wanted laughter, pranks, and to be buried in a garden under a crabapple tree. “The kids can make wine out of me and get p***ed,” he quipped in his autobiography.

His final concert on July 5 — titled Back To The Beginning — brought 42,000 fans to Villa Park, marking an emotional reunion with Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he told the crowd.

Ozzy Osbourne’s extraordinary life — from rebellious Birmingham boy to heavy metal godfather — came to a fittingly dramatic and heartfelt end, with love, laughter, and music echoing through the estate he called home.
