Jayne Torvill gave fans a major scare during a live performance at Birmingham’s BP Pulse Live Arena when she suddenly slipped and fell on the ice after skating over a hole. The incident happened during the legendary duo’s iconic Bolero routine as part of their farewell UK tour.
Christopher Dean immediately rushed to her side to help her back up, with the concerned audience watching in shock. At 67, Jayne was performing alongside her longtime skating partner Christopher, 66, when the accident unfolded.

Showing true professionalism, Jayne quickly recovered and continued the routine, with Chris supporting her through the rest of the performance. Afterward, Christopher addressed the shaken crowd:
“Thank you so much. As you can see, sometimes it gets scary out here. Scary, scary – for Jayne anyway,” he said with a touch of humour, lightening the mood. He also expressed deep gratitude to fans for attending:
“It has been a terrific show. Thank you to my wonderful skaters and to Jayne. We are honoured that you took the time to come out and celebrate with us – to relive some of the highlights from our 50-year career.”
Jayne and Christopher, who first paired up in 1975 and went on to win gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics, began their final tour titled Torvill and Dean: Our Last Dance earlier this month. The tour runs until May 11 and includes stops in London, Belfast, Newcastle, and Glasgow.

Ahead of their final shows, Christopher admitted:
“We’re not spring chickens anymore.”
The duo agreed it was the right time to retire while they were still physically capable of performing. Cameras have been following their farewell journey, which will be turned into an ITV documentary packed with emotional and joyful behind-the-scenes moments.
“The programme will capture everything – from planning and rehearsals to our final performances. It’s a beautiful way to say goodbye to our 50-year skating partnership. We hope fans will treasure it as much as we do.”
