Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have officially ended their extraordinary journey as skating partners, but their emotional farewell was filled with gratitude, humour, and decades of shared memories.
The Olympic gold medalists wrapped up their Torvill and Dean: Our Last Dance tour with four powerful performances in their hometown of Nottingham—marking the end of a 50-year legacy on the ice. Reflecting on their partnership, Jayne, 67, shared the secret behind their enduring bond: “Keep doing it.”

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, she recalled the moment they clicked: “As we skated together a few more times, we realised we both had a passion for it. We just wanted to get better, keep practising, and that’s what’s kept us going all these years.”
Jayne jokingly added that their friendship survived because “we never got married.” Meanwhile, Chris, 66, said one key rule helped preserve their partnership: “Never leave the ice with an argument.”

The pair have grown up side-by-side, navigating milestones like marriages, children, and now retirement. “We’ve done so much over the 50 years and seen so much together,” he reflected.
Their legendary 1984 Olympic performance to Bolero in Sarajevo remains a defining moment in British sport. And in April, they gave fans one last emotional Bolero during their farewell tour, with Chris calling the audience “phenomenal” and proud they could “bow out on a high.”

Although they won’t perform on the ice together again, the duo are not slowing down. They plan to mentor upcoming skaters, continue choreographing, and appear at talks and special events.
Jayne said: “We’ve got other work things coming up. We’ll still be together – just not skating together.”
