Charli XCX has fiercely clapped back at accusations that she “faked” her Glastonbury performance, following a barrage of criticism labelling her headline act the “worst in festival history.”
The 32-year-old pop provocateur performed on the Other Stage Saturday night, stunning in black leather hot pants and a mesh skull crop top. However, many online commentators accused her of miming or overusing autotune, sparking outrage across social media.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Charli mocked the backlash, sarcastically noting how tired she was of the outdated argument that autotune or the absence of a traditional band disqualifies someone from being a “real artist.” She wrote, “Yawn. Sorry, just fell asleep xx.”
Charli added that she enjoys the controversy, saying the best art is “divisive and confrontational,” rather than forgettable or overly palatable.

Despite the backlash, many fans in the packed crowd went wild for her hits including “Apple,” “Party 4 U,” and “360.” One standout moment included Gracie Abrams, daughter of Star Wars director J.J. Abrams, joining her onstage for a viral dance to “Apple.”

While Charli was being slammed online, Nile Rodgers and Chic were crowned the night’s unexpected winners by fans, with many saying his Pyramid Stage performance should have headlined the entire festival.
