Pancreatic cancer comeback? Monty Python legend Eric Idle hospitalised twice in just three days sparks major fan concern. Sick, skint, and silenced – Eric Idle hits out at Python betrayal and bleak reality at 83

Monty Python icon Eric Idle has revealed he was hospitalised twice in just three days, sparking growing concern among fans that his pancreatic cancer may have returned. The 83-year-old believes he is currently suffering from gastroenteritis and thanked staff at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai GI ward for their care, writing on social media: “I think I’m suffering from gastroenteritis. I love you people.”

But as messages of support flooded in, many fans couldn’t help but voice deeper fears — with some expressing worry that his hospitalisations could be a sign of a recurrence of the pancreatic cancer he survived in 2019. “Please no relapse,” one wrote, while another added: “Thinking of you Eric. We’re praying it’s not what we fear.”

Gastroenteritis, which involves inflammation of the stomach and intestines, is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection and often resolves on its own. But for Idle, who’s already battled cancer once, any health scare sends ripples of alarm through his supporters.

Last year, Idle admitted that he “shouldn’t be alive” after his battle with pancreatic cancer. He only survived thanks to early detection and surgery — a rare outcome for a disease often caught too late.

Recalling the moment he was diagnosed, he said he initially laughed, thinking his doctor was joking. “Ten years earlier, that same doctor had told me pancreatic cancer kills fast,” he explained. “When he said the same words to me later, I thought it had to be a joke.”

Aside from his health, Idle has opened up about his financial difficulties and growing disillusionment with the Monty Python brand’s management. He revealed that he had to sell his house and keep working despite his age, saying income from the troupe had “tailed off disastrously.”

He pointed blame at Holly Gilliam, daughter of fellow Python Terry Gilliam, who took over management of the brand. “One Gilliam is bad enough. Two can take out any company,” Idle wrote.

His daughter Lily supported him publicly, writing: “I’m so proud of my dad for finally sharing the truth. He’s always stood up to bullies and narcissists.”

Fans around the world now wait anxiously for updates on Idle’s condition — hoping their comedy hero isn’t facing another life-threatening battle.
