The Wagatha feud escalates as Coleen Rooney’s camp claim a ‘second victory’ over Rebekah Vardy after calling in lawyers to scrutinise the ITV series

The bitter Wagatha Christie feud has taken another twist, with insiders close to Coleen Rooney claiming she has secured a “second win” over rival Rebekah Vardy – four years after their explosive courtroom battle.

The pair famously faced off in 2022 when Rebekah Vardy sued Coleen for libel following allegations that stories about the Rooney family had been leaked from Vardy’s Instagram account. Rebekah ultimately lost the high-profile case.

Now, fresh tensions have emerged following the launch of ITV’s three-part documentary series, The Vardys, which follows Rebekah and husband Jamie Vardy as they navigate life in Italy and revisit some of the controversies that have dominated their lives.

According to sources, Coleen’s team carefully examined the programme and even sought legal advice to ensure there were no defamatory remarks aimed at her.

An insider close to the Rooney camp claimed that Coleen found it amusing that Rebekah had landed her own reality series.

“Coleen was amused when she heard Rebekah had landed her own reality show,” the source said.

“She and her friends have been laughing about the reaction to The Vardys, knowing that Becky was using Coleen’s name to be back in the news.”

The source added that members of Coleen’s inner circle had branded the programme “boring” and shared critical comments circulating on social media.

“It feels like a second win for Coleen who won the court case and has now won the TV series ‘war’,” the insider claimed.

“She doesn’t think the reaction to Becky’s ITV show has been anywhere near as good as her own Disney+ series, so it’s a win-win.”

Coleen’s popularity has surged since the Wagatha saga, with her Disney+ documentary Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story becoming a huge success in 2023. The mother-of-four also reached the final of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, further cementing her status as one of Britain’s most popular WAGs.

Meanwhile, The Vardys documented the terrifying armed raid on the family’s £2million Italian home, during which jewellery worth £80,000 was stolen, as well as their efforts to settle near Lake Garda following Jamie Vardy’s move abroad.

Addressing the Wagatha scandal in the first episode, Rebekah insisted she has moved on.

“It’s over, it’s done. I’m not going to keep living in the past. I’m so f***ing bored of it,” she said.

“I don’t have any negative feelings towards her whatsoever.”

“Some people might go ‘oh that’s bullshit’. Well, whatever, that’s your opinion.”

“If I saw her, if I bumped into her, people assume it would be handbags at dawn, birkins at dawn, a WAG war… but it wouldn’t. My peace is too important.”

“I’ve got no idea what she thinks of me but I’m not bothered. Let’s leave it there or otherwise it will get messy.”

Another source claimed that Coleen’s priority was simply ensuring there was nothing defamatory in the documentary.

“Luckily for Becky, and also to Coleen’s relief, there was nothing bad about Col in there,” the insider said.

For her part, Rebekah is said to be delighted with the programme and believes it has allowed viewers to see a different side of her.

Although The Vardys launched to 670,000 viewers on ITV, insiders claim streaming figures on ITVX have exceeded expectations, with the series performing strongly on the platform.

Yet, despite the latest claims of victory from both camps, it appears the shadow of Wagatha Christie still looms large over two of Britain’s most famous WAGs.
