“I JUST WANT MORE TIME…” — Busted star James Bourne, 42, reveals he must undergo major surgery to “extend his life” — the shocking severity of his condition

Busted singer James Bourne has shared a heartbreaking update with fans, revealing he is preparing for major surgery in a desperate bid to “extend his life” after a sudden health crisis forced him off stage.

The 42-year-old musician, best known for his role in the iconic pop-rock band Busted alongside Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson, shocked fans last year when he pulled out of the highly anticipated Busted vs McFly tour just hours before it began.

Now, after months of silence, James has broken his absence with an emotional message on social media, admitting he is still battling serious health issues — but holding onto hope.

He told fans: “I realised it’s been about six months since I posted last. I have a plan in place to have a major surgery that should extend my life and hopefully make me well enough to come back to what I love the most which is touring and making music. It really sucks to be out of the game. But there is hope!”

Despite the gravity of the situation, James has not revealed the exact nature of his illness, leaving fans both concerned and supportive as they await further updates.

His health battle first came to light in 2025 when he was forced to withdraw from the Busted vs McFly tour at the last minute. At the time, he admitted he was simply not well enough to perform.

He wrote: “The VS tour kicks off tomorrow night in Birmingham and as excited as I’ve been all year for this tour to begin, I’m really sorry to say that over the last 8 days it has become clear that I am not in good enough health to play these shows.”

“There’s a lot of information I still don’t have about my condition but my bandmates, management and I are unanimous in deciding that I should focus on the medical stuff for now.”

While James stepped away, his bandmates made sure his presence was still felt throughout the tour — often dedicating moments on stage to him.

In one emotional tribute, Matt Willis told the crowd: “You may have noticed our best friend is not here tonight. James Bourne is really f***ing sick and we love him and we miss him. This is the first show we’ve ever played without him and it’s really weird.”

He added that the situation had unfolded incredibly quickly, saying it had “happened f***ing fast,” before reminding fans that “health is wealth.”

Though absent physically, James remained at the heart of every performance — with the band even bringing in a replacement guitarist while continuing to honour him throughout the tour.

Now, as he faces what could be the most important battle of his life, James is clinging to one thing: the hope of returning to the stage.
