Tamzin Outhwaite has opened up about the deeply emotional journey her family faced after her eldest child Flo came out as transgender — revealing it was far from easy in the beginning.
The EastEnders star, 55, admitted that when Flo first shared his identity around the age of 10 or 11, her initial reaction was disbelief. Inside, she recalled thinking the situation felt “ludicrous,” even though she never said it out loud.

What followed was years of adjustment, difficult conversations and therapy — both as a family and individually. Tamzin described that period as “very distressing,” marked by confusion and fear, as they tried to navigate something they had never experienced before.
She explained that pushing back could have made things worse, so instead they worked together, slowly learning and understanding with support from others going through similar experiences.
Now, years on, Tamzin says everything has changed.

She revealed that Flo, now 17, is “thriving” — growing into a confident, talented young person with dreams of acting and comedy writing. For her, seeing her child happy has brought nothing but relief and pride.
Looking back, she admits it has been “a very long journey,” but says the family is now in a much better place — one built on acceptance, understanding, and love.
