Jesy Nelson said she wanted to leave Little Mix after just TWO years in the band but was urged to stay and “make as much money as possible”

Jesy Nelson has admitted she seriously considered walking away from Little Mix just two years into the band’s rise — years before her eventual exit — but was persuaded to stay and “make as much money as you can”.

Speaking on the Great Company with Jamie Laing podcast, the 34-year-old singer reflected candidly on a moment early in the group’s career when she felt overwhelmed and wanted out, despite their growing success after winning The X Factor in 2011.

Jesy explained that the idea of leaving surfaced long before her official departure, recalling a difficult family conversation at a time when Little Mix were already well-known, even if they hadn’t yet reached their peak. She admitted she struggled to see what her future would look like outside the band if she left so early.

It was her brother who ultimately convinced her to stay. Jesy shared that he reminded her of her own strength and encouraged her to push through for a few more years, adding that the opportunity in front of her was rare and potentially life-changing for their family. His advice, she said, was blunt but heartfelt: to keep going, earn what she could, and use that chance to transform their lives before stepping away on her own terms.

Looking back now, Jesy says he was right. She revealed she feels grateful she stayed, particularly as the financial stability she gained has allowed her to better support her family — something that has become even more important following the serious health challenges faced by her twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe.

The singer also spoke about continuing to film her upcoming Amazon Prime documentary Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix during an incredibly difficult period, explaining that she hopes sharing her story will help raise awareness and lead to real change.

Despite the emotional toll, Jesy said she remains determined and hopeful, crediting her daughters’ resilience and the support of fans who continue to follow her journey beyond Little Mix.
