This Morning host Ben Shephard has opened up about his ongoing health struggles, admitting he’s worried parts of his body may “never come back” after a serious leg injury that changed everything.
The much-loved presenter, now in his late 40s, has become a fixture on UK screens through shows like Tipping Point, Ninja Warrior UK, and most recently, This Morning. But behind the charm and energy, Ben is quietly battling the physical toll of a major injury and the reality of aging.

It all began in June 2021, when Ben ruptured his ACL, tore his meniscus, and fractured his leg during a football match. “We won the Cup Final, but I started with two legs and ended with one,” he joked on Good Morning Britain. Shockingly, he kept playing for 25 minutes, unaware of how badly he was hurt.
The injury led to surgery and months of rehabilitation. But even now, Ben admits the trauma has left a mark. Speaking on the Gaby Roslin podcast, he confessed, “As I’m getting older, bits of me are falling off… falling apart badly.”

Ben described the fear and frustration of recovery, especially having to re-learn basic movements like putting weight on his leg or jumping off a small step. “It’s remarkable what the brain does,” he said, reflecting on how challenging it is to trust your body again after trauma.
Though he’s physically back on screen, Ben admits that health preservation is now a daily concern. “I’m really focused on protecting my joints, my back, and my shoulders,” he said. “Because you realise: you only get one body.”
