The race to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman on Strictly Come Dancing has intensified, with insiders claiming BBC bosses have now narrowed their focus to a small group of household names.
The much-loved presenting duo stunned viewers in October when they announced they would step down at the end of the current series, drawing the curtain on an era that has defined Strictly for more than a decade. Their departure instantly triggered what many insiders describe as “one of the biggest casting decisions in British television”.

Since then, a steady stream of famous faces has been linked to the glittering roles, with contenders reportedly undergoing on-screen chemistry tests as executives hunt for the perfect pairing to carry the show forward.
According to reports, three names have now emerged at the very top of the wish list: Bradley Walsh, Alex Jones and Alan Carr. Of the trio, Alan is said to be in pole position, though the BBC is believed to be keeping its options open.

A source claimed that while these three are leading the pack, the wider shortlist includes ten stars in total, all set to attend a special “chemistry day” where different partnerships will be tested. The insider said the line-up also features Rylan Clark, Rob Rinder, Zoe Ball, Holly Willoughby, Amanda Holden, Alison Hammond and Angela Scanlon.
The source added that BBC bosses are keen to “mix things up” and inject fresh energy into the long-running show, stressing that the final decision will come down to which duo has the strongest on-screen connection.

Fresh from winning Celebrity Traitors last month, Alan Carr is believed to have impressed decision-makers, despite concerns his 2027 tour schedule could clash with Strictly commitments. However, insiders insist the comedian would be unlikely to turn down such a coveted role.
Meanwhile, emotions have been running high behind the scenes as Tess and Claudia prepare to bow out. During the filming of the Christmas special, Tess reportedly broke down in tears as she was given a heartfelt send-off by her colleagues.
An audience member revealed that the atmosphere in the studio was electric yet emotional, recalling how Tess and Claudia clutched each other’s hands as they said “keeeeeep dancing” for the final time. They said both presenters were visibly choked up, adding that while Tess managed to compose herself for the cameras, the audience could feel just how momentous the moment was, rewarding the pair with a standing ovation.
