Beloved Actor Timothy West Dies Peacefully After Devastating Fall – Family Shares Heartbreaking Final Moments

British acting legend Timothy West has died at the age of 90, six months after a traumatic fall that led to a severe brain injury and ultimately ended his extraordinary life. The EastEnders and Coronation Street star passed away peacefully at a care home on November 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

An inquest held at Westminster Coroner’s Court has now confirmed that Timothy suffered an unwitnessed fall near his home on August 11, 2024, resulting in a traumatic brain injury. Though he was hospitalised for three months and later transferred to a care facility for palliative treatment, he was never able to return home.

The coroner ruled there was no evidence of foul play and that his fall was accidental, but the impact was life-altering. He was moved to Wandsworth Common Care Home, where, according to the care home manager, his family remained by his side until his final breath.

“He passed away peacefully at 19:20, with his loved ones holding his hand,” the home’s statement read.

Timothy’s children — Juliet, Samuel, and Joseph — released a moving tribute, stating:

“After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father died peacefully in his sleep. He leaves behind his beloved wife Prunella, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. All of us will miss him terribly.”

The actor’s wife, Prunella Scales, best known for her role in Fawlty Towers, was reportedly not well enough to understand his passing, as revealed by son Samuel West. Prunella has been living with vascular dementia since 2015 — a condition Timothy had long supported her through with strength and devotion.

EastEnders paid tribute, saying:

“Timothy’s portrayal of Stan Carter left a lasting legacy. He brought warmth, gravitas and unforgettable presence. He will forever be in our hearts.”

Timothy West’s passing marks the end of an era — a man who dedicated his life to the stage, to family, and to love. Though gone, his voice and characters live on in British television history.
