Doctor’s Shock Verdict: The One Sentence That Left Anne Hegerty Frozen in Fear. The doctor advised her to take medication to stabilise her health, but she remains firm that she is “still considering it

The Chase star Anne Hegerty has sparked concern after revealing that her doctor has officially warned her she is prediabetic. In a new interview, the 67-year-old quizmaster said she has recently lost around 30lbs but insisted the weight loss wasn’t tied to any specific regimen.

Anne explained that her doctor has now recommended medication that could help stabilise her health. She said she is “considering it”, though she hasn’t made a decision. She admitted, “I’m not doing anything deliberately, except thinking that I need to get more active, because I really don’t walk much and I should do a lot more of that.”

The TV favourite added that she also needs to work on her physical strength, saying, “I need to do more stretches because I’ve got no core strength — and that might actually be a good idea.”

Speaking to Yours Magazine, Anne revealed, “My doctor said I’m prediabetic and suggested something like Ozempic. I told him I’d think about it — but for now, I’m only thinking about it.” She added that the advice was given to help her “stave off diabetes”, stressing, “I think I’m OK, but I’ll bear it in mind.”

Anne’s weight-loss journey began during her 2018 stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, where she reportedly shed a stone in three weeks due to the minimal jungle diet.

While appearing on The Jeremy Vine Show in 2019, Anne said she wasn’t a “fit fat person”, but insisted she wasn’t unhealthy either — though she admitted she wanted to become “fitter”.

More recently, Anne jokingly suggested that having money had subconsciously improved her eating habits. Speaking to Bella magazine, she said some fans had pointed out her weight loss, but she hadn’t been trying. She added, “I find I’m not as hungry these days — it’s to do with being rich. It’s brilliant — I love being rich!”

She explained that financial security had altered her appetite and mindset: “It means I can ask myself, do I need to eat this? Am I hungry right now? Maybe I’ll be hungry later, so I’ll put it aside and come back to it.”

Anne, who previously lived on benefits before landing her role on The Chase, said she was “hungrier” when she was “poor”, adding, “That’s why poor people eat more — and they eat fattening stuff.”
