Live TV Bombshell: Kate Garraway Drops Shock Confession — Her Mum’s Secret Crush Matchmaking with Richard Arnold Leaves Fans Speechless!

Kate Garraway’s Mum Still Hoping She’ll Date a Co-Star? Richard Arnold Breaks Silence on Their ‘Secret Date’!”

ITV viewers tuning in to Good Morning Britain on Thursday were treated to more than just the day’s headlines, as host Kate Garraway playfully confessed that her mum is still dreaming of a possible office romance between her and co-star Richard Madeley—and she wasn’t entirely joking!

During the lively episode, entertainment reporter Richard Arnold popped in with his usual roundup of showbiz gossip. One of the main highlights? Elton John being named Time Magazine’s 2024 Icon of the Year.

While chatting about the legendary singer, Richard asked whether anyone on the panel had ever seen him perform live. Both Kate and Richard Madeley confirmed they had—and amusingly, they had even gone together once in the past.

Recalling the outing, Richard said, “We went to the Royal Opera House and we were papped! Back then, everyone thought we were a couple.”

Kate, never one to miss a beat, jumped in: “My mum is still hoping! And so is yours—be honest!” The remark sent the studio into fits of laughter, as Richard nodded along, calling the concert “magnificent.”

With playful banter flying back and forth, Richard quipped: “That would’ve been 20 years ago when you and I first dated?”—adding more fuel to the teasing tone of the segment.

Kate then reflected on seeing Elton again more recently, during a very emotional experience with her late husband, Derek Draper, before his passing. She described attending the iconic singer’s Farewell tour with Derek and their two children, Darcey and Billy, calling it an unforgettable moment.

In a touching gesture, Elton dedicated “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” to Derek and his long battle with post-Covid complications. Kate later revealed that the tribute brought the whole family to tears.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing getting Derek there.

In a candid interview with Smooth Radio, Kate admitted she was unsure until the last minute whether her husband would be well enough to attend. “It took weeks of planning. Even on the way there, he looked so weak,” she said.

When Elton finally appeared on stage, Derek squeezed Kate’s hand and began to cry. Refusing to wear ear defenders because he wanted to hear every note, he stayed as long as he could. At one point, nurses had to take him out briefly when he began to shake.

“After a while, I asked him if he wanted to go home, and he said, ‘No… want to go back,’” Kate recalled. They fitted him with ear defenders to reduce the stimulation and wheeled him back into the show.

Sadly, Derek passed away earlier this year following a years-long battle with the after-effects of Covid. The family received an outpouring of support, and Elton John was among the famous faces who attended Derek’s funeral in April, a gesture that deeply moved Kate and her children.

And just when viewers thought the segment couldn’t pack in more surprises, Richard Madeley revealed he saw Elton perform all the way back in 1974, stunning the studio.

“That concert was unlike anything I’ve seen before or since. He was at the peak of his powers in ’74—just incredible,” he said.

Kate responded with admiration, calling the 77-year-old icon a true “legend.”

From hilarious flirting rumors to heartbreaking memories and star-studded tributes, this episode of GMB gave viewers a rare blend of nostalgia, celebrity insight, and emotional depth—and left fans both laughing and holding back tears.
