After his divorce, Rob Rinder found himself back in the dating world — and things quickly got awkward. At the height of Fleabag’s fame, he met Andrew Scott at the BAFTAs, got his number… and somehow ended up inviting him to Burkina Faso. What happened next?

TV personality Robert Rinder has opened up about one of his most embarrassing dating moments — and it involves none other than Fleabag’s heartthrob priest, Andrew Scott.

In a past interview, Rob, now 46, reflected on life after his divorce from barrister Seth Cumming, to whom he was married for five years. The pair wed in 2013, with none other than Benedict Cumberbatch officiating the ceremony, before splitting in 2018 after more than a decade together.

But when it comes to post-divorce dating, things haven’t been smooth sailing.

Speaking to The Standard, the Good Morning Britain presenter confessed to being awkward on dates, jokingly describing himself as “David Brent with an ASBO.”

Rob went on to share a hilarious yet cringe-worthy moment involving actor Andrew Scott during the height of Fleabag mania.

“I fancied him as much as the rest of the world,” Rob admitted, recalling how the two met at the BAFTAs. “I managed to coax his number out of him and even sent a few reasonable texts,” he said.

But then, things took a turn for the weird.

“Within a few hours I had inexplicably invited him to visit Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. Before you ask, I don’t know why either,” Rob laughed. “He never spoke to me again, of course.”

Earlier this year, Rob also gave a rare insight into his marriage during a segment on GMB with actress Lesley Joseph, with whom he’s starred in several pantomimes.

“You are my Valentine,” he told Lesley sweetly, before joking: “I never even cooked for my ex — probably why the marriage didn’t work — but I cooked for you!”
