Scott Mills reveals emotional reason he doesn’t want kids — and why marrying Sam changed his life forever

Scott Mills is living what he calls the best chapter of his life — but becoming a parent isn’t part of the story.

The beloved Radio 2 presenter, 52, opened up about his whirlwind year: marrying partner Sam Vaughn, winning Celebrity Race Across The World, and landing the Radio 2 Breakfast Show gig from Zoe Ball. Yet despite the joy and newfound stability, Scott admitted he’s not planning on having children — and the reason is more heartfelt than people might expect.

“I get up at 4am for work, and honestly, looking after a dog is enough!” Scott said with a laugh. “I love being an uncle — you’ll get the best presents, the most love — but I just can’t picture myself doing the parenting thing. Hats off to those who do, but I don’t think that’s my path.”

Instead, Scott cherishes his role as “super uncle” to nephew Fred, who recently joined him for the Paddington Bear Experience. “You get to do all the fun stuff and then say ‘Bye!’ — I think that’s enough for now.”

Scott credits his husband Sam, 36, for transforming every aspect of his life. “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. Because of Sam, I feel safe, and everything else has just fallen into place. I’ve finally sorted it out.”

Their love story, which began later in life, is a beacon of hope for others still waiting. “I met Sam in my forties. It took me a while, but it was so worth it,” Scott shared. “I’d nearly given up, but when it’s right, you just know.”

As he prepares to co-host Eurovision with close friend Rylan Clark, Scott is also hoping love will find his pal too. “Rylan always says, ‘I wish I had someone like Sam.’ And I tell him, ‘You will – there’s still time.’”

While early mornings and missed holidays are now part of Scott’s schedule, he says Sam’s unwavering support makes it all doable. “We’re big on date nights and time together. He gets it, even when things get hectic. That’s why I love him.”

From his dog Teddy to Eurovision, from breakfast radio to building a marriage rooted in patience and joy — Scott Mills is thriving on his own terms.
