Keisha Buchanan’s Abuse Nightmare: Former Footballer Partner Accused of Controlling and Assaulting Her for Years

Keisha Buchanan, the founding member of British girl group Sugababes, has bravely come forward with harrowing allegations against her ex-partner, claiming she suffered a decade-long reign of abuse.

At a hearing on May 8, shocking details emerged about her former boyfriend, 39-year-old ex-footballer Taiwo Leo Atieno. Prosecutors accused him of launching a “campaign of terror and abuse” between 2011 and 2018, including physical violence, financial control, and coercive behavior that left Keisha both emotionally and physically scarred.

Atieno is said to have beaten Keisha, grabbed her by the neck, punched her arm, and struck her back during three separate assaults. The pop star claimed one attack left her in such pain she required physiotherapy. But the abuse wasn’t limited to violence.

According to prosecutors, Atieno banned her from wearing red lipstick, criticized her appearance, and called her “trashy” and “like a prostitute.” He allegedly controlled when she could shower, restricted her diet, dictated what she could watch on TV, and even monitored her gym visits.

Despite their breakup, Atieno is also accused of continued harassment, including breaching a court order that barred him from contacting Keisha and demanding £25,000 from her.

Atieno, who has played football for Kenya and Torquay United, denied all charges. His legal team claimed he acted only as Keisha’s business manager and never interfered with her personal life. The case has been adjourned until June 5 at Harrow Crown Court.

Keisha has not yet issued a public statement, but the courtroom revelations have sparked widespread outrage and support for the singer, who is now being hailed for her courage in speaking out.
