Bradley Walsh Opens Up About His Health Struggles and Life-Changing Wake-Up Call: ‘I Was a Time Bomb’

Bradley Walsh, the much-loved presenter of The Chase, has bravely spoken out about his private battle with a chronic health condition that has impacted both his physical appearance and daily routine. The 64-year-old star revealed he has been quietly coping with blepharitis—a persistent eye condition that causes redness, swelling, and inflammation.

In a revealing interview on This Morning, Bradley explained, “People don’t realize I have seriously bad blepharitis. I have to take one pill a day for it or I really struggle.” He acknowledged how viewers sometimes comment on how he looks without knowing the medical reality behind it. “If I take medication though, I’m fine,” he said, adding that an eye operation may be needed in the future.

But blepharitis is just one part of his health journey. In recent years, Bradley also faced a heart disease scare—a turning point that forced him to take better care of himself. His father, Daniel, passed away from heart failure at just 59 years old. “I had a hang-up because my father died at 59. I just wanted to get past that age,” Bradley shared. “Turning 60 was a milestone.”

Bradley was only 33 at the time of his father’s passing. “I’d just performed at the Royal Variety Show, which helped launch my career. Two weeks later, my dad died. He never got to see what I achieved,” he reflected emotionally.

Adding to the concern, Bradley also inherited high cholesterol from his mother, Margaret. While he isn’t on statins yet, his doctor warned him that he produces too much cholesterol—a “silent killer,” as he put it. “I was a time bomb,” he confessed, prompting him to lose over 10 pounds and overhaul his lifestyle right before the COVID-19 lockdown.

Despite these challenges, Bradley has remained upbeat and honest about his journey, reminding fans that behind every smile on screen, there may be a deeper story.
