Coronation Street fans were left stunned this week after Emily and Amy Walton — the twin sisters who once shared the role of Bethany Platt — reappeared on social media nearly two decades after leaving the ITV soap.
The siblings, now in their 20s, played Bethany Platt, the daughter of Sarah Platt (portrayed by Tina O’Brien), from 2000 to 2007. The twins alternated scenes throughout their seven-year run before their character and on-screen mother moved to Italy.

After their exit, the sisters chose to lead a more private life. But they made headlines again when Emily posted a sweet vacation photo from Thailand on Instagram, captioned simply: “The last of Thailand 💛”.
During their time on Corrie, the twins featured in several dramatic storylines — including one where Bethany was kidnapped by her grandmother. After leaving the spotlight, Amy went on to represent the UK in trampoline gymnastics, even making it to the European Championships.

Bethany Platt later returned to the show in 2015, this time portrayed by actress Lucy Fallon. Fallon’s version of the character went through harrowing plots, including grooming and surgery complications. She left again in 2019 and returned briefly in 2023 before departing once more to focus on her family.
Though the character has now exited for good — with Bethany moving to London — the original Walton twins’ recent appearance has reignited nostalgia among fans, who are still in awe of their evolution from child stars to young adults.
